Morels
A collect-and-cook mushroom battle for two players

While we love a family and friends game night, sometimes we find ourselves just the two of us, so we're always on the hunt for a good two-person game. Luckily we sniffed out Morels, a charming game for two players where you collect and cook mushrooms. It's filled with charming art so cozy, you might want to dim the light or have a spot of tea while you play.
How it works: You collect sets of mushroom cards from a central deck (the forest), and cook them for points using pans (with butter or cider for bonus points). You can only hold up to 8 cards at a time (without a basket), and your discards go into a shared decay pile. It makes for quick, back-and-forth gameplay.
Why it's clever: It seems simple, but every turn feels meaningful. The familiar structure (pick up a card, play a card, discard), masks some really tricky decisions. And while you can draw from the decay pile, if you do so, you have to take the entire pile. It's one of those games where fortunes can change in an instant, and it's quick enough to play a few times over if you want revenge.
Price: $26
Bonus: there's also an expansion, Morels Foray, that makes the game playable for 3-4 players, if you're into that sorta thing.
